Migraine is a type of headache that comes in attacks, is usually unilateral, throbbing and lasts for 4-72 hours. It can also be accompanied by symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, sensitivity to light and smell.
Migraine headaches have several stages. prodromal period; It refers to the period of time in which the onset of pain is felt in some way. Within hours or days of the onset of pain, symptoms such as constipation, mood changes, depression, anxiety, stiff neck, increase-decrease in urination are seen.
Aura may not be present in every migraine patient, it is manifested by visual disturbances before pain, flashes of light, ringing in the ears, hearing noises or strange sounds, tingling in any part of the body, prickling, difficulty in speaking, decreased understanding or inability to move any part of the body. The duration of the aura is approximately 3-60 minutes. The period of pain refers to the period of time, usually 4-72 hours, during which severe pain is felt. Nausea and vomiting may also occur along with the pain attack. Postdrome period refers to the time when the severity of the pain is almost completely reduced or ended. During this period, the person feels exhausted, sluggish and confused. The sudden movement of the head can unfortunately trigger the pain again.
Many methods have been used in the treatment from past to present. Although rare, persistent migraine headaches sometimes do not respond to current treatments. These include cognitive behavioral treatments, meditation, mindfulness, yoga, diet, various drug treatments, acupuncture, ozone and injections. When all these treatment methods are examined, it has been seen that nerve blocks performed in sessions provide more benefits to the patients.
Migraine is a treatable disease. If the diagnosis is clarified after a detailed evaluation and appropriate treatment is started, people can continue their lives from where they left off.
